What is Organic?
Organic food production methods promote biodiversity, the biological cycling of nutrients, and plant and animal health. Certified organic farmers may not use toxic synthetic pesticides, artificial fertilizers, and unnecessary hormones or antibiotics. Instead, they use practices that restore, maintain, and enhance soil and ecosystem health
. GMOs, artificial ingredients, or trans fats may not be used.

Every day, over 200 tons of waste is delivered to the Eagle County Landfill for recycling or disposal. According to a waste study completed in 2009, approximately 60% of these materials are potentially recyclable or compostable. Our local recycle rate (currently estimated at approximately 20%) is below the national average of 34%, and Eagle County is actively working with community partners to improve.

It is no coincidence that National Blood Donor Month falls in January. Winter can often be a difficult time for blood donations because of inclement weather. In fact, severe winter weather across much of the U.S. affects Red Cross blood collections.  While the severe winter weather impacts blood donation opportunities, hospital patients still need transfusions of blood and platelets

Approximately 2 million plastic bags are consumed each minute, worldwide!  Consider the fact that the petroleum used to make 14 of these bags, could drive a car for a mile!  That is a lot of wasted energy and pollution.
