When the railroad arrived in Edwards, the Brett Ranch became a favorite resort for the businessmen of Leadville. After boarding the train in the morning, they would arrive at Brett’s to hunt or fish and partake in the wonderful cooking by Marie Brett, Joseph’s wife. By boarding the train in the afternoon, travelers could be home by evening. It could be said that Joseph Brett began the resort business in the Eagle River Valley.
