Because John Adams wanted us to. Before the Declaration of Independence was even signed, he envisioned fireworks as a part of the festivities. In a letter to Abigail Adams on July 3, 1776, he wrote that the occasion should be commemorated “with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”

Early in April 1927, experts set a statewide production goal of $1.5 million for the lettuce crop. This was a half a million dollars higher net to growers than teh year prior.

From 1900 through the 1920’s, potatoes remained one the three strongest cash crops, followed by lettuce and peas.

Jim Krentler from Colorado Springs bought the property in 1972 from Pete Dodo, believing it would be a great investment for the 1976 Denver Olympics. When the state vetoed the Olympics, Krentler decided to sell the ranch. He worked with Jack and Marty Mankamyer to design a Master Plan, with a golf course and residential development.
